My name is Ray McCormick. I am a 4th generation farmer and lifelong conservationist. I have spent my whole life working hard - to farm my land carefully, to support my community, to care for my family. Now, I want to take those principles of hard work, perseverance, stewardship and discipline to Washington. The days of duct tape and band-aids solutions are past. I’m angry at the politicians doing just enough to get reelected, patting themselves on the back and telling us how lucky we are to have them. The time is now for change!
I learned as a boy that when the cattle need feed, a storm can not stand in your way. My Dad taught me to do things right the first time and make it last. My Indiana values have been passed down from my Grandfather to my dad, on to me and now I hand them to my Son. This corner of Indiana has always been my family’s home. The fight for our future is personal for me. This is about the world our children and grandchildren will live in. I will not stand by and let “do nothing do gooders” and extremists and radicals ruin our land, our jobs and our future.
Home for me is where generations of McCormick's have lived and farmed. I’ve shared this home with Cheryl, my wife of 42 years, my son Nate, daughter Marilyn and three grandchildren. Caring for God’s creation has always been one of our highest priorities. At our home we’ve grown peaches, cattle, corn, and an abundance of wildlife; for us, this is our purpose and our cornerstone. Handing that way of life forward to future generations remains our responsibility as stewards of the planet.
My lifetime of dedication to my family, my farm, community has led me to crisscross our corner of Indiana, as well as the entire state and the nation working to improve conservation. I have gained a unique insight to the needs and opportunities for Southwest Indiana. As a farmer and family man with decades of my hands in the soil and tending to my family, crops and livestock, I believe I can bring a new approach and traditional values to Washington.
Building healthy soils that provide us with clean water, clean air, healthy food and fertile land are not campaign slogans, they are the practices that I’ve pioneered on our farm for decades. Protecting these critical natural resources has become a national movement and Southwestern Indiana is become a shining star in that movement. Protecting our abundant natural resources, our critical infrastructure, will directly impact both urban and rural families for many generations. I understand the importance of balancing the needs of farmers with the needs of our cities. We all depend upon each other; when we all work together, imagine what we can accomplish.
We can lead the country on this journey by caring for God's creation from the ground up in a way that brings good paying jobs for years into the future.
Together we can make the 8th district a national example in economic and environmental innovation.
If you elect me to congress from the 8th district, together we can fight to achieve these bipartisan goals. To the good people of the 8th district - I need your heart, soul, and strength for this heavy lift. Let’s grow our future together.
