Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:

Born and raised in the great state of Indiana, Fuhrman was called to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC), where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT). During that time of his active-duty service, he was accepted into the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) and came back to his beloved home state where he attended Purdue University, while still serving, and earned a commission as an Officer in the USMC and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Technology. Over his twenty years of military service, Fuhrman gained a wide array of knowledge and skills that have proven to be beneficial in his various roles of public service.

With over 20 years of experience as a precinct committeeman, Fuhrman has been able to serve as the link between the voters and the political process during elections. He has served 12 years on the Putnam County Council, including 4 years as President. Fuhrman is proud to have represented the citizens of Monroe, Russell, Franklin, Jackson, and Floyd townships for 12 years and during that time accomplishing the challenging task of balancing all budgets.

Not only a council man, but Fuhrman is also a family man. He has four children, Zach (USMC veteran, IUPUI graduate, and current police officer), Sam (Purdue graduate, engineering manager, and US Navy spouse), Sarah (Purdue senior in Agricultural Education), and Seth (Purdue freshman and recent North Putnam HS honor graduate). Fuhrman and his two youngest children have been active in 4H and Putnam County Fair activities for over 15 years.

Fuhrman is ready to accept the responsibility of joining the commissioners in finding solutions to the challenges of Putnam County and its citizens. A few key issues that Fuhrman is eager to act on are bridges, the possibility of a county courthouse annex, and broadband. Putnam County has more bridges per capita than all other Indiana counties, including nine historic covered bridges, which all require management of inspections and maintenance. Regarding the annex, discussions have been held for over 10 years on whether the county should invest $5 million in building a new courthouse annex in addition to renovating the courthouse. Lastly, schools, families, and the senior citizens of Putnam County continue to face the challenges of connectivity and technology. The pandemic brought to light the need for reliable internet and ensuring that broadband is brought to all parts of the county is essential to the success of citizens ranging from students to our elderly with limited means of communicating.

Fuhrman has stated, “it would be an honor to continue to serve the citizens of Putnam County. If elected, this will provide an opportunity to advocate for Putnam County and the interests of its citizens and businesses.”
