Rebecca Thorn

Republican

Running For: Perry County Commissioner, District 2

Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:

My name is Rebecca Thorn and I am on the November 8th ballot for Perry County Commissioner District 2. I would like to tell you about myself. I am married to Mike Thorn. We live on the family cattle farm in Tobinsport. I have 3 daughters, 4 grandchildren, 5 step children, and 6 step grandchildren. My parents were Bill and Lucille McFall.

I am retired from Domtar Paper Company after 38+ years. During my career at Domtar I held 3 positions: Production, consisting of day to day operations of producing paper, Yard crew, consisting of daily cleaning and maintaining a clean workplace, then in 1994 the opportunity came for me to enroll in the journeyman millwright apprenticeship program. I completed a 4-year program in 3 years and 2 months. I was the first woman to complete this and become a journeyman. This opened doors for the other women in the workplace. During my career I was chosen to attend the Newling Process Training for interviewing to hire new employees. In 2018, Domtar opted to create a position for a full-time safety representative. I interviewed and selected for this position. This was my last position held until retirement in January of 2020.

I have lived in Perry County all of my life except for time I served in the United States Army for 3+ years. I served my country as a Military Policeman in which I am very proud. The Military taught me respect, responsibility, and accountability. I come from a miliary family, a grandfather, 4 uncles, 2 nephews, and now a step grandson who recently enlisted in the United States Marines.
I have and continue to volunteer in several things, some being food pantries, horse rescue organization, animal shelter volunteer, Women of Steele, Santa Sacks, and helping individuals in need.

My goals as Commissioner if elected are as follows:

1.) Opening and properly maintaining an animal shelter. In which is desperately needed.
2.) Encourgaing and keeping industry, small business, and tourism in our county.
3.) Being transparent and accountable to the taxpayers of Perry County.
4.) Listening to the citizens about issues and concerns they have.

I want all citizens to know I will always be there to listen to them and help in any way possible.

Thank you for you time and I would appreciate your support on November 8th.

Thank You,
Rebecca Thorn
