Running For: Perry County Commissioner, District 2

Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:

Michelle Sprinkle Duncan has announced her candidacy for the office of Perry County
Commissioner District 2 for the Democratic nomination.

Duncan lives in rural Perry County and is married to Nathan Duncan.  They have a son who
attends Perry Central Junior-Senior High School.  The oldest child of James and Patricia
Sprinkle, Duncan was raised in Leopold and is a lifelong resident of Perry County.

Duncan graduated from Perry Central High School in 1988.  She continued her secondary
education at the University of Southern Indiana, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree
in elementary education.  After graduating from USI, she was hired as a teacher at Perry
Central School Corporation, where she remains employed.

She is a member of St. Augustine Church.  She serves as the Vice President of the Leopold
Memorial Park Association and Vice-President of Perry Central’s insurance trust, Southern
Wellness Trust.  Duncan is also serving as Co-President of the Perry Central Classroom
Teachers Association.  She has served on the youth baseball board for eight years.

Asked why she decided to run for office, Duncan remarked, “Although I have not been formally
part of county government and have never run for political office, I have always cared deeply
about Perry County and followed its progress and the decisions made by elected officials.
While there are many wonderful things happening in our community, there are also ways that
we can improve. I want to work together with other elected officials, to listen to the voices of
Perry County citizens, and to represent their interests in county government.”

Of particular importance to Duncan is ensuring that the county’s elected officials listen and
communicate respectfully, putting aside their own interests for the good of the entire
community.  Asked what issue she hopes to address first if elected, Duncan said, “I’m hearing
a lot from concerned citizens about the county’s need to address animal control. I think that
has to be a priority for our elected officials, and I believe that by working together, we can find
solutions.”
