Bill Collins
Republican
Running For: Posey County Commissioner, District 3
Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:
I am honored to be on the ballot for Posey County Commissioner once again and look forward to continuing to serve the constituents of Posey County for another four years.
My wife, Wendy, and I are proud to call Posey County our home and chose to raise our families here. We are now enjoying watching our nine grandchildren grow up in this community.
I chose to serve the people of Posey County as County Commissioners in 2021 after retiring from CountyMark with 37 years of service and have spent the last four years helping to move Posey County forward.
In the past four years, I have served as the President of the Posey County Commissioners and along with the other two commissioners we have been working on many projects to improve both the quality of life and the quality of place for the residents of Posey County; those projects include the following:
*Western Bypass- including working with landowners to secure the land needed for the project and working with developers, contractors, and designers to make this project a much-needed reality.
*Rural Broadband- The Commissioners worked with several agencies to secure matching funds for the rural broadband project. This includes collaborating with the State of Indiana to bring broadband to rural areas of Posey County.
*Emergency Response Radio- Working with various emergency response agencies in Posey County to improve the emergency radios throughout the county.
*Housing Study- The Commissioners are working with several agencies to secure grant funding to complete a housing study for Posey County. This study will be the building block for much-needed housing in Posey County.
*Comprehensive Plan- Working with Posey County Area Plan to approve the updated County Comprehensive Plan in 2024.
*Mulberry Street Bridge- The Commissioners are working with INDOT to secure funding for this project and working with contractors on the design.
*COVID-19 Small Business Grant- The Commissioners oversaw the $250,000 grant opportunities given to Posey County Small Business, which was vital for overcoming the challenges that COVID-19 created.
*American Rescue Plan- The Commissioners created the American Rescue Plan Committee to oversee utilizing American Rescue Plan funds.
Several other projects that have been accomplished include updating the County ADA plan, working closely with the City of Mt. Vernon on the Tile Factory expansion project, Posey County Sewer District expansion, updating landscaping at the Courthouse, working with the creator of the 1878 Lynching Commemorative Monument that was placed on the Courthouse lawn in 2023, and providing needed updates to several County buildings.
I have also served on the child protection team, the Posey County Drainage Board, the Posey County Solid Waste Board, the Board of Finance, the Posey County Economic Development Partnership, now known as EREP, and the Posey County ADA compliance board, as well as the executive board of EREP.
I would appreciate your support as I continue to help move Posey County forward.
