Alan Malone
Democratic
Running For: Perry County Sheriff
Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:
Hello, my name is Alan Malone and I am the current Sheriff of Perry County. I feel very
fortunate to be your Sheriff. I have been serving this capacity since September 2015 and I am
very proud of what we have accomplished since I have been in office. My career in law
enforcement started once I graduated from the Florida Department of Corrections Academy in
1989. In 1993, I moved back to Perry County where I continued to work for the Department of
Corrections at Branchville Correctional Facility. I was hired by the Tell City Police Department
in 1995 and attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. During my 20 years with the
Tell City Police Department, I was promoted three times. The initial promotion was to
detective, where I spent approximately 13 years investigating high priority crimes. I was later
promoted to the rank of lieutenant where I continued to conduct high priority investigations and
I took on the role of a supervisor. I was later promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police
where my primary role was administrative duties as well as various other duties assigned.
During that time, I worked hand in hand with the Chief of Police on budgets as well as daily
operations of the department.
I was elected Sheriff in 2015, after the resignation of former Sheriff Lee Chestnut. During that
transition, Sheriff Chestnut helped me along the way to learn the day to day operations of the
Sheriff’s Office as well as the Detention Center. In my seven years as your Sheriff, we have
had numerous accomplishments along the way. With my experience and years of service,
we'll continue to strive to make this office one of the best agencies in Indiana. I cannot begin
to even express how proud I am to be your Sheriff while working alongside great staff.
