John Hurley

Democratic

Running For: Spencer County Council, At-Large

Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:

“I am running to produce a government that supports working families and serves all citizens, regardless of political affiliation. Spencer County residents deserve adequately funded public services, preemptive infrastructure development, agricultural and economic growth, adequate housing, safe working conditions, and appropriate regulations. County government must work with local organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development, to attract and maintain the best options for our county. Our law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders need their positions and requests respected by elected officials. Our elected officials must be accountable to the citizens of Spencer County, not just political parties. Real solutions to local issues are complex and will involve time, effort, and dedication, not just slogans on a bumper sticker. This is a campaign not targeting any single elected official, but rather one built on a platform of transparency, clarity, and vision.”

A lifelong resident of Spencer County, John Hurley is a 2006 graduate of South Spencer and 2010 graduate of Western Kentucky University's Agriculture Education Program. He began his profession as a Career and Technical Educator in 2010, and currently teaches Manufacturing and Agricultural Mechanics courses at South Spencer High School. Hurley currently serves as the Vice President of his local teachers’ association while also representing student and educator interests on discussion and bargaining committees. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Indiana Farm Bureau, Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, and previously served as treasurer of Leadership Spencer County. John and his wife, Jessica, reside in Grass Township.
