Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:
Sherri Flynn is a retired Professor and Department Chair of Business Administration and Supply Chain Management at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. Sherri’s journey with Indiana’s largest post-secondary institution began in 1998 as a full-time business administration faculty for Ivy Tech. After advancement to Assistant Professor and later to Associate Professor, Sherri became the Site Director of the Tell City Ivy Tech in 2007. At the Tell City Site, she focused on fostering a culture of quality education and community outreach. Her efforts resulted in a student growth rate of 300 percent, the implementation of a testing center, and the development of Ivy Tech Community College’s first -ever Dual Enrollment Program.
In 2014, Sherri began working at the Evansville Campus where she led the campus’s largest programs of approximately 360 students. In this role she developed the curriculum for Ivy Tech’s first Achieve Your Degree Program which has developed into a staple in employer-sponsored education for Ivy Tech Statewide. In 2019, Sherri was selected for promotion to Professor, the highest attainable academic rank for faculty in higher education.
Immediately prior to joining Ivy Tech, Sherri worked as the School-to-Work Coordinator for Perry, Spencer, and Warrick Counties. A Gulf War Veteran, Sherri served our country for nearly 10 years as a Regular Officer (Captain) in the United States Air Force. Her assignments included Chief of Air Traffic Control Operations at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Michigan; Zweibrucken Air Base, Germany; and Bergstrom Air Force Base, TX; and Chief of Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems for Air Training Command at Randolph AFB, TX. Sherri was selected as an outstanding graduate of the Air Force’s Squadron Officer College which is structured around leadership, joint warfare, reasoning, and team building. There, she was voted by her peers as the person who contributed most to the success of her class. Her numerous other awards as a military officer include being a member of a 6-person team that received The Vice-President Al Gore National Hammer Award for Re-inventing Business in 1996.
Sherri graduated from Tell City High School in 1980. She holds an Associate of Applied Science in Mortuary Science from Xaiver University, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Texas A&M University, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1997 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
An avid community supporter, Sherri has been involved in Junior Achievement, The Perry County College Success Coalition, Volunteer Community Readers, The Board of Directors of the 9-county (Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick) Community Foundation Alliance of Southwestern Indiana, The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation Alliance Finance Board, and was the President of the Tell City-Troy Township School Board. Currently, Sherri is the Vice-Chair of the Perry County American Rescue Plan Committee and a member of the Perry County Redevelopment Commission. Sherri and her husband J.R. have been married for 41 years. Together, they have a 31-year-old son, A.J. (Kelsey) Flynn, and a 17-month-old grandson, Rowan Flynn.
