Kim Robertson

Democratic

Running For: Perry County Coroner

Short Bio / Message from the Candidate:

My name is Kim (Roark) Robertson. I was born and raised in Perry County, grew up on 16 th
Street in Tell City just up from where the current Dog Park is located. As I was growing up, this
was known as the Women’s Softball Field where I have played many games. I would walk
across the field when I wasn’t playing ball to the Tell City Swimming Pool, to swim with friends,
family and neighbors. These priceless memories from my childhood are still going strong in our
community today. The softball field has changed locations to accommodate more fields and
better parking and the pool recently received a face lift from renovations (thank you to all
involved in making that happen). THIS is why I love my community!

My husband Mark and I have raised our family here in Perry County. We have lived in the Mt.
Pleasant area for over 20 years and recently purchased a house in Gatchel. We have 3
children, Marcus, 26yrs, Mattie, 21yrs, and McCoy, 11yrs. They all have attended Perry
Central School System, with the older 2 graduating from Perry Central and the youngest is in
6 th grade.

I attended Tell City School Systems; Newman School as an elementary student, Tell City
Junior High School and Tell City High School, where I graduated with the class of 1992. I
attended IUS for Elementary Education and decided to begin a career with Lincoln Hills
Development Corporation, where I worked for a child abuse prevention program for 10 years. I
started at the Perry County Health Department in 2013 as the Emergency Preparedness
Coordinator and Immunization/Insurance Coordinator, holding that position for several years
before stepping into my current position as Sanitarian. In 2013/2014, I was approached with a
job offer that I had never considered, working for the Perry County Coroner’s Office. Intrigued
by the opportunity, I began another leg of my journey that takes me where I am today.
All of the Coroner positions in Perry County are part time. I have worked my current position
with the Health Department alongside of my Coroner’s position for over 8 years. This has not
nor will it affect the quality of service that is received in either position. I worked under Charlie
Baumeister as a Deputy Coroner for nearly 4 years and as Chief Deputy for Nic Etienne until
his resignation where I continued as the Chief Deputy under Warren Taylor.
My desire to be the next Coroner for Perry County comes from a deep passion to care for and
serve the members of our community. Not only am I competent in working the investigation
side of a case to help tell the story of the deceased but I am also able to assist the loved ones
through the grief process and with needed information to maneuver through the steps to care
for the deceased.

My ability to successfully run the Office was proven in the interim between Nic Etienne’s
resignation and Warren Taylor’s appointment. I worked with various county offices to maintain
continuity with the budget, scheduling and personnel. I ensured the office continued to deliver
the upmost respect and dignity to the deceased and their loved ones. I successfully wrote and
was awarded grant monies to purchase a mass fatality cooler for our autopsy room. I strongly
feel that the experience I have will provide you with the best Coroner for Perry County. Thank
you for allowing me to serve in my past capacity, as a Deputy and Chief Deputy for over 8
years.
